Birthday Freebies

We all know the best thing about birthdays isn't getting more responsibilities or adding a new wrinkle to your forehead - it's the presents! And I'm here to remind you that there are companies and restaurants out there who would love to feed you in exchange for your email. It's pretty much a no brainer.. but the choice is yours.

Delaney BBQ/BrisketTown

359 Bedford Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11211
About 5 days before your birthday, Delaney BBQ will send you a coupon for free half pound of BBQ at BrisketTown in Williamsburg. You can choose from brisket, pulled pork, or ribs and they run about $12-14 for a half lb. A half pound of brisket gives you around 5 chunky slices and half pound of ribs was 3 ribs last time I went. I recommend opting for the brisket (read: best value at $14 compared to the other two). It is incredibly tender and the flavor is simply unforgettable.
Other tips:
- The mac and cheese here is the bomb.com
- Complimentary potato bread and pickles with your meat
- Ask for hot sauce if that's your thing! Sometimes a dash of heat helps bring new flavor to the dense meats
- Reasonably priced beer
- Lastly, don't go at prime time in order to avoid a wait.

99 Favor Taste

285 Grand St
New York, NY 10002
No coupon or email needed. Simply show them your ID and dine in on your birthday. This is $22+ value if you get the AYCE (all you can eat) hot pot and $26 if you get hot pot and korean bbq! So let me step back for a second and explain what hot pot is. Hot pot is a sort of Asian stew where there's a simmering metal pot of broth in the center of the table and you can throw whatever you want in it. That's the fun part! It's easily customizeable with different meats, vegetables, and condiments. It takes some getting used to at first, but you'll love it. Your best bet is to come here with experienced hot potters like myself and to follow their lead. There is much to learn.
Other tips:
- Make a reservation! Wait can be 2+ hours long in the wintertime
- Call ahead of time to confirm the birthday deal
- BYOB with a small corkage fee
- Yelp check-in for free scoop of ice cream after.. and if you have room for ice cream after AYCE hot pot then you have failed at life.

Pinkberry

Red Mango

Various locations in Manhattan
Download the Red Mango app on your phone or go to http://www.redmangousa.com/club-mango-rewards/
Seems like Red Mango only gives $5 off a froyo, but Pinkberry lets you get away with no weight limit (which explains why mine was toppling over)

Haru

Various locations in Manhattan
A week or so into your birthday month, you'll receive a $20 certificate from Haru Sushi which can only be used Sunday - Thursday. I opted for their better priced lunch special roll combo for $16.95. This way, my $20 will cover the whole value of my meal, including tax. I just had to pay tip!

Starbucks

Various locations in Manhattan
This birthday reward is one that pretty much everyone knows about. Do me proud and splurge on that overly-sugary, over-priced venti frappuccino you've been craving!

Au Bon Pain

Various locations
Free lunch or dinner, whatever you may please. You can choose from their prepackaged salads and sandwiches or get something made-to-order.
Other Tips:
- Don't come too close to closing time cause chances are a lot of items won't be available anymore

Moe's Southwest Grill

Various locations in Manhattan
Free burrito with the purchase of a drink. I'm a Chipotle fan, but Moe's is great because of their free birthday burrito and they also give free chips and access to unlimited salsa bar!

IHOP

235-237 E. 14th Street
New York, NY 10003
I've never actually redeemed this offer myself but I always seem to get these in the mail. They send them out for birthdays, email subscription anniversary days, International Pancake Day.... Apparently you get a full stack of their Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity® Pancakes.

Baskin Robbins

Get an email for a free 2.4oz scoop. IMO, not something worth traveling for (unlike the hot pot or brisket), but a delightful treat if you happen to pass by one. Be sure to have your email coupon printed and saved in your wallet so you don't miss the opportunity!

Sprinkles Cupcakes

Brookfield Place (2nd floor by Hudson Eats) or 780 Lexington Ave (between 60th and 61st)
http://sprinkles.com/perks
Register for Sprinkles Perks for a free cupcake of your choice on your birthday. Pictured above, I got the black and white cupcake - highly recommended!

Red Robin

Closest location to NYC is Secaucus
Free burger - you get to choose from 24 - during the month of your birthday. It's been awhile since I've been here but they may still do bottomless fries!
